Does Happiness require success? How should we define success? Is it possible to be happy without success?
It seems like in today’s world we can’t talk about one with out the other. When asked what makes them happy, most people will mention money and success at or near the top of their list. Our culture, our media, and corporate America have created and perpetuate a visual image and belief that happiness is achieved by having a successful career complete with all the material possessions that go with that. In addition, we are led to believe that we must look and dress a certain way and that we must be busy from 7 AM until 11PM. We also need to be Facebooking, Twittering, Digging, Blogging, texting, and emailing to let everyone know we are successful, busy, having fun, and doing well. The result, we have very poor, shallow relationships with our spouses, kids, family, and friends, and we are all living a lie when it comes to our true happiness. We get suck in at an early age when we hear about the “American Dream” and are told we need to study hard, make good grades, go to college, get a good job, make lots of money, and then retire. It’s a trap! And, it does not lead to happiness.
There is good news though! There is a way to enjoy success, develop lasting, meaningful relationships, create the proper life balance and be happy in life and at work. Let me introduce you to Steven Scott and his story
